STAFF POSITION: Communications Production Associate / Manager
New York City

Reports to: Director of Communications

Objective: GLSEN seeks a dynamic communications professional eager to coordinate the creation of our public education materials. From print materials to online resources, educator resources to research reports, this position requires someone with strong production skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.

Ideal candidates should have experience in project management and production to be considered for an associate-level title. Those with more writing and editing experience will be considered for a title at the manager level.

Responsibilities:

A) Project and production management

  • Update and manage overall publications protocols to be used with departments when creating resources such as brochures, research reports, curriculum guides and more.
  • Develop and manage project timelines for individual production projects.
  • Working with the Communications team and outside designers and printers, manage the production of select GLSEN materials and publications as requested by all GLSEN departments.
  • Establish and negotiate pre-production, production and distribution timelines with appropriate staff and vendors for select materials and publications.
  • Maintain in-house GLSEN library of materials, resources and publications. Work with printers and fulfillment houses to maintain needed quantities.
  • Manage GLSEN merchandising program.

  • B) Coordinate consistent and professional external communications

  • Oversee content development and production of GLSEN’s newsletter, Respect, and annual report.
  • Working with Web Manager, ensure online resources are up to date, meet organizational editorial standards and speak effectively to target audiences.
  • Ensure that all external materials are consistent with identity standards and marketing plans as developed and updated by the management team.
  • Assist in the development of program and scripts for major GLSEN events.

  • C) Other duties and projects as assigned.

    Required Skills

    1. BA communications, marketing, design or related liberal arts field or commensurate personal and professional experience.
    2. Excellent organizational and interpersonal communications skills.
    3. Proven ability to establish and work within timelines.
    4. Ability to multi-task and work as a member of a diverse, high-energy team.
    5. Creativity and resourcefulness.
    6. Knowledge of, or experience with, graphic design and/or printing processes, basic HTML/CSS skills, desktop publishing experience and/or knowledge of design software.
    7. Writing and editing skills a plus.

    This position is located in GLSEN’s New York City headquarters.
