INTERNSHIP - Program Events Intern

GLSEN is seeking a Program Events Intern to assist the Program Events Manager in the planning, coordinating, and executing of over 20 events over the 2008-2009 school year including the National Board of Directors meetings, Chapter Organizing’s Chapter Summit and Student Organizing’s Summer Start. The intern works in every aspect of the Executive department and learns how to research and evaluate hotel properties, design invitations and preparatory meeting materials, track attendee responses, choose catering menus, work with external clients and contracts, and administrative details.

Duties would include:

  • Research and compiling data on specific event locations and specifications;
  • Creation of long-term organization system for tracking contacts and property descriptions;
  • Helping maintain and updating sales kit library;
  • Assistance in the creation and execution of meeting materials;
  • Possible onsite attendance at event locations;
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Department; < LI>Other duties as assigned.

    Please note: This hands-on position also involves file maintenance, budgeting, database maintenance, production, distribution of materials and other duties.

    Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Great organizational ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Strong interest in GLSEN missions statement and programming.
  • Internships are suitable for undergraduate students.
  • Prefer college students pursuing degree in Hospitality studies.

    Stipends: May be available.

    Schedule:

  • Full-time internships are available.
  • A minimum commitment of 8 weeks is required.
  • Internships will take place during the summer (June 1 – September 1).
  • Work schedule is flexible.
