The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. Established nationally in 1995, GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
GLSEN’s Student Organizing department works with over students across the country. GLSEN interns will have the opportunity to communicate with students, and provide technical assistance and organizing resources to students. Depending on interns’ interests and the organization’s needs at the time, particular tasks may include leadership development, media work, training, and special events, such as the Day of Silence.
Intern qualifications include:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience with the Internet and Microsoft Word (Excel, Access and PowerPoint are useful but not necessary)
Background or strong interest in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, civil rights and/or education issues
Internships are suitable for undergraduate or graduate students.
Schedule:
Full-time and part-time internships are available.
A commitment of 8 weeks is required.
Internships may take place during the school semester or the summer.
We will interview and select interns on a rolling basis.
This internship will be located in the NYC office.
