STAFF POSITION: Online Strategies Manager
New York City

Reports to: Director of Communications

Objective: The Online Strategies Manager will oversee the overall strategy, development and implementation of GLSEN's online communications and marketing program. This program is expected to reach those individuals who are best positioned to advance GLSEN's organization-wide efforts among supporters, educators, students, elected official and donors. The Online Strategies Manager also oversees the Constituent Relationship Management system in order to engage & develop relationships with constituents to build long-term organizational affinity. This position will also have a strong focus on the technology side of the program.

Responsibilities:

Communications and Marketing

  • Supervise all aspects of the online marketing program including managing the e-communications calendar and performance metrics and evaluation.
  • In collaboration with the Web Content Manager and other Communications staff, ensure consistency of e-communications and web site content and offline marketing materials.
  • Develop integrated marketing strategies for policy objectives.
  • Integrate social media outreach into online marketing program.
  • Manage and refine evaluation metrics and regularly report on marketing activities.
  • Database Management and Technology

  • Serve as the resident technological expert for the CRM system for the organization.
  • Manage CRM audience segments, as well as list growth efforts and performance evaluation.
  • Oversee integration of student, educator and other auxiliary databases into CRM database.
  • Support CRM users (including national and chapter) on issues relating to use of the system and best practices.
  • Manage vendor-partner and consultant relationships and contractual obligations required to successfully execute a coordinated online communication program.
  • Keep abreast of the latest online technology information and trends
  • Build & maintain a strong & engaged online list - including but not limited to list-building and - nurturing activities, petitions, appeals, viral campaigns, etc.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination

  • Lead organization-wide staff team to streamline e-communications efforts and ensure transparency between email marketing efforts and other organizational efforts.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders throughout the organization to promote strategies, messages & priorities through interactive technologies.
  • Liaise with Development Department staff and consultants to maximize opportunities for online giving.
  • Work with program and development departments to plan and develop special campaigns within the CRM system.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in direct marketing or online communications.
  • Knowledge of membership databases, CRM systems, marketing related research techniques, software, and other planning and analytic tools used in e-marketing and communications.
  • Current and comprehensive knowledge of database management and online marketing strategies and implementation, including but not limited to branding, positioning, customer relationship and database marketing, and integrating and using Web 2.0 and social networking tools in the marketing mix.
  • Strong leadership and communications skills and ability to align online marketing plans with broader organizational goals.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Innovator that generates new ideas, takes appropriate risks, supports change, encourages innovation and solves problems creatively.
  • Vendor management and negotiation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Experience with HTML, HTML editors, and PowerPoint preferred
  • This position is located in GLSEN's New York City headquarters.
