Policy Tool: Inclusion of Enumerated Categories in Safe School Legislation/Policies

Mar 11, 2002

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students are disproportionately targeted for harassment and discrimination in schools. One of the most effective ways to protect these students is to adopt and implement "safe school" laws and policies that explicitly prohibit harassment and discriinationon the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.

This document was created by GLSEN and the National Center for Lesbian Rights to provide advocates and activists in the field with a resource to advocate for policies that are inclusive of the youth most at risk in our schools.
