Out! Making Schools Safe for Gay Teens (Video)

Out! is a two-video program that promotes safer schools through sensitizing educators and teens — LGBT as well as straight — to LGBT issues, and by offering suggestions on combating bias. Includes a study guide.

The Staff Video features interviews with teachers and counselors who work with LGBT teens and gay-straight alliances (GSAs). Teachers discuss dealing with teens who are coming out, ways to counteract homophobia, and how to sensitize staff and students. It includes tips for forming a GSA and frank discussions with LGBT students. Running time: 26 minutes.

The Student Video features candid interviews with LGBT teens who talk about reactions of family and friends, the harassment they face at school and how they handle it, and the value of GSAs and support structures. This video is designed to be viewed and discussed by LGBT and straight students. Running time: 42 minutes.
