Is Everyone Protected by the Bill of Rights?
wNetSchool www.wnetschool.org is Thirteen/WNET New York's award-winning Web service for teachers.
Their June 2001 update focuses on the theme of gay and lesbian rights. It features exciting information on related Thirteen programming and online teaching resources, as well as technology-enhanced lesson plans addressing gay and lesbian rights. In this lesson, students explore whether LGBT people should be entitled to serve in the military. To understand this issue, students take a look at the civil rights afforded to every US citizen. They explore how this applied to the civil rights movement, and whether it is also applicable to LGBT people who want to serve in the military. All this is used to gather information for a final debate about the issue using skills and research found in the lesson. Grade Level: 10-12 Time Allotment: Approximately two weeks Subject Matter: b> Social Studies and Language Arts To access the entire lesson plan, click on the Thirteen/WNET School link, visit http://www.thirteen.org/wnetschool/origlessons/billofrights. |
