About No Name-Calling Week

No Name-Calling Week (NNCW) is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds and providing schools with the tools and inspiration to launch an ongoing dialogue about ways to eliminate bullying in their communities.

Predominantly celebrated in middle school and elementary schools, NNCW was inspired by the young adult novel The Misfits by James Howe. Activities surrounding NNCW also include the Creative Expression Contest in which students create essays, poetry, music, original artwork or other pieces that convey their experiences and feelings about name-calling.
