The Educator's Guide to LGBT Pride
At GLSEN, we believe in a safe learning environment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. One way to create a safer space is to include LGBT themes in your classroom. From our 2009 National School Climate Survey, we know that the vast majority (86.6%) of students are never taught anything about LGBT people, history, or events in their classes. We also know that when LGBT students are taught about these topics, they feel more a part of their school, report feeling safer in school and are less likely to skip school. So you can make a difference!
One very easy way to do that is to celebrate LGBT pride month during the month of June. In order to support educators who wish to celebrate or incorporate LGBT pride in their classroom, we are proud to bring you "The Educator's Guide to LGBT Pride." |
