Pride Resources for Students – 2011June is Pride Month in many places around the world, which means Pride parades, rallies, and festivals, and even school Pride events. For students and GSAs participating in Pride Activities, you can use the opportunity to get the word out about all the great work you are doing, and gain support from the community for your GSA and all LGBTQ youth. Here are some resources GLSEN has put together for your use: The Safe Space Kit Palmcards promote GLSEN's Safe Space Kit Campaign and encourage people to send one to the school of their choice. NSCS Palmcards can be handed out to LGBTQ identified middle and high school students to encourage them to participate in GLSEN's 2011 National School Climate Survey (NSCS). SSIA PRIDE ACTIONS In addition to promoting your GSA, and getting the word out about the Safe Space Kits and NSCS, you can also use the Pride experience to gather support for the federal Safe Schools Improvement Act (SSIA) and help make a real difference. The GLSEN SSIA Petition is a petition that students can use at Pride to gain signatures in support of SSIA. In addition to asking for signatures and contact information, the petition asks endorsers if they would be interested in learning about local and national GLSEN activities. In addition to the petition, your GSA can have individuals sign the SSIA Alert Letter to Congress, to be shared later with Congress. Read the Pride Actions Cover Letter 2011 (not for public distribution) for important talking points on SSIA and the SSIA Pride Actions. Please send completed SSIA petitions and letters to the GLSEN National
