Youth Representatives Attend White House LGBT Pride Reception |
| Five
GLSEN Jump-Start student advocates attended the second annual LGBT
Pride Reception at the White House on June 29. These community leaders,
representing GLSEN chapters across the country, got the chance to
share their stories of anti-LGBT bullying with top government officials,
including President Obama and Vice President Biden. The students
also advocated for the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student
Non-Discrimination Act. |

San Diego Padres Sign GLSEN's Team Respect Challenge |
|
The San Diego Padres became the first professional sports team
to take GLSEN's Team Respect Challenge, an initiative of Changing
the Game: The GLSEN Sports Project. The Padres pledged to avoid
name-calling and language that puts down others, including anti-LGBT
language, to send a message to youth sports teams that all youth
should be respected.

Ambassador Reflects on GLSEN's Safe Schools Media Summit |
| Jesse
T. blogs about his experiences at GLSEN's Safe Schools Media Summit.
We brought a diverse group of 18 students to Los Angeles to learn
how to use traditional and new media to share their stories and advocate
for safe and affirming schools for all. Thanks to GLSEN supporters
ABC 7, Disney/ABC and HBO, as well as special guests Chely Wright
and Perez Hilton, for helping create such a memorable experience. |

Returns to the New York City Pride March |
| A
group of 125 GLSEN staff, chapter members, volunteers, students, educators
and supporters marched in NYC Pride last month. GLSEN marched near
the front of the parade thanks to an invitation from Wells Fargo.
Executive Director Eliza Byard and her daughter, actor and advocate
Wilson Cruz, and Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns rode together
in the famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach. |

the Game at Fire Island |
| Nearly
100 supporters attended an event last weekend on Fire Island to support
Changing the Game: The GLSEN Sports Project, a new GLSEN initiative
to make K-12 sports and physical education safe and inclusive for
all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
Luckily, the pool kept most of those in attendance cool amid 100-degree
temperatures. |
