How You Can Help It Get Better This Back-to-School Season

Dear Friend,

As a GLSEN supporter, we appreciate all you already do as part of a great movement for safe schools for all. If you are like me, there is always an urge to do more. As students head back to school, here are a few ways you can make a difference and help address anti-LGBT bias and behavior at a school that is important to you.

2010-11 Student Ambassadors Star in Safe Space Campaign PSA

"I Spy" a new public service announcement. Just in time for back to school, watch a message from last year's GLSEN Student Ambassadors. The student leaders are helping raise awareness about our campaign to send a GLSEN Safe Space Kit to every middle and high school in the country. Send a Kit to your former school for only $20.

White House Names GLSEN 'Champion of Change'

The White House has chosen GLSEN as a "Champion of Change" for the positive impact our work has on suicide prevention. GLSEN will be among several organizations participating in an event and discussion at the White House on Thursday. "Champions of Change" is a weekly initiative to highlight Americans who are making an impact in their communities.

Tools for Implementing a Safe Schools Campaign in Your Community

Back to school is a great time to see if your local school community has an anti-bullying policy that explicitly protects students from bullying based on sexual orientation and gender identity (sometimes policies are on school or district websites). GLSEN has several resources, including model school, district and state policies, to provide the tools to launch, sustain and achieve effective safe schools campaigns.

Reflections on Camp GLSEN Chapter Event

Camp GLSEN returned to New York State for the third year in a row. More than 60 Chapter Leaders and Jump-Start Coordinators representing nearly all GLSEN Chapters joined GLSEN staff for an extended weekend of learning, planning, networking and fun.
