Michigan Students: Apply For Your State Campaign Advocacy Team!
Sep 14, 2007
Are you a student in Michigan? Do you wish there was a law telling your school it has to protect students from bullying and harassment? Well here’s your chance!
REGISTRATON IS NOW CLOSED
As a member of the Campaign Advocacy Team you will work in coalition with other powerful activists -- students, adults, allies and more -- who are all working to make Michigan’s schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression.
The Campaign Advocacy Team is a group of students who work to advance safer schools legislation in their state. Through workshops and trainings you will learn:
Community organizing skills
How to collaborate with other students
Coalition building
Working within an anti-oppression framework
Making your GSA or student club even more successful
You’ll get to know other students in your state who care about safer schools and create real and positive change in your area. These trainings will prepare you to work with local and statewide safe schools coalitions by building your organizing skills and your knowledge of legislative campaigns.
Students accepted to the Campaign Advocacy Team will plan and implement exciting actions like:
Advocacy days
Student summits
Meetings with law makers
Rallies
And more!
Laws don’t just create themselves! This is an opportunity to tell politicians what you want. Be part of creating change that will benefit ALL students.
We especially encourage students of color, trans-identified youth and straight allies to apply.
