Please Support Ally Week

Oct 25, 2010
Dear GLSEN Friends,

In celebration of Ally Week, the sixth annual such event which has just concluded, I'm writing to GLSEN supporters like you to ask for your special support.

Ally Week has a simple, yet extremely critical goal: to end anti-LGBT language, bullying and harassment in schools, so fewer and fewer LGBT students are forced to live in fear.

The profound change Ally Week brings to thousands of schools could never happen without you, our supporters. That's why I hope you'll support this critically important event. A $5 contribution today will help subsidize the Ally Organizing Packets that GLSEN's sends to registrants free of charge. This year we sent over 1,000 of these to students. Your small donation will let LGBT students breathe a little easier, knowing you and others are on their side.

$5 is all it takes to make a difference

I urge you to take a moment - right now - to think about the many LGBT students in small towns and rural areas where anti-LGBT bias is often the norm. In these places, being openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender is simply not an option. The pain, fear and isolation that these young people feel on a daily basis can only be undone through the presence of supportive teachers, advisors, counselors, school administrators and, yes, GLSEN supporters like you.

That's why I'm asking you to make a special contribution today to support this important event and the cascade of positive change it will make possible. When you do, you can be proud that your support is creating hope for LGBT young people.

We've accomplished a lot, but we have a great deal more to do. We simply cannot make schools safer without the support of caring people like you.

Be part of this inspiring change today. Donate $5 in support of GLSEN's annual Ally Week today!

Sincerely,

Eliza Byard PhD Executive Director

P.S. GLSEN has helped thousands of schools create GSAs (Gay-Straight Alliances), train countless educators on how to teach respect to their students and facilitate more accepting and peaceful school environments. Your support will help us create lasting change. Please send it now.
