On Wednesday October 27th, 2010, GLSEN was hosted in Springfield, Massachusetts by MassMutual for a panel on bullying and harassment. Keynoting and representing GLSEN proudly, were Eliza Byard and GLSEN Board Member, Sirdeaner Walker, who resides in Springfield, Massachusetts. The event marked the end of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Month.
Since 1851 MassMutual has provided service to those looking to take the next step in securing their financial future. With a strong philanthropic emphasis on enhancing the quality of life for residence and employees through education, arts, culture, economic development, MassMutual looks at philanthropy as a way to make a difference and serve as a catalyst for community-focused initiatives in an effort to generate an impact. MassMutual has been a significant supporter of GLSEN for the past two years, helping in supplying Safe Space Kits to schools in the Springfield school district. We were thrilled to be addressing all employees of MassMutual, with representation from their Pride LGBTA Employee Resource group, Young Professionals group, Asian Employee Resources Group and African American Group to name a few. In addition to having a presence on stage, GLSEN had a prominent display of our Safe Space Kit campaign. Those who attended were able to view of Safe Space Kit resources, website, and learn about ways they can help put a safe space kit in their own middle and high school. |
