GLSEN Supports Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month, an important time to pay special attention to the contributions of women to our societies, cultures, and history. As a part of GLSEN's Days of Support, we encourage GSAs and other student organizers to take the time during March to recognize the contributions of LGBT women to our society.

Women's History Month Heroes

Learn. Throughout March, we will be recognizing women who have made significant contributions to the LGBT and safe schools movement. We'll be posting fun facts about the 9 women we are honoring this year on the GSA Facebook, keep up with our page to see new additions!

Share. Our Women's History History Month Heroes downloadable flier has information about nine notable Women's History Month heroes. You can also
download our Important Days in Women's History Timeline! It's perfect for sharing. Print off copies and pass them out to members of your GSA, teachers and fellow classmates. To download, see RELATED DOCUMENTS on the right.

Post. We want to know who your heroes are! If you know a woman who has contributed to the LGBT and safe schools movement, post about them on the Gay-Straight Alliances Facebook page. You can also tweet your heroes to @DayofSilence using the #GLSENWHM hash tag!

Research. Learn more about the incredible contributions women make! You can also check out the links below to connect with other women and girls nationwide, and see what opportunities may exist!

The National Women's History Project: Creators of Women's History month and a good place to find a lot of resources to help celebrate the month, including their Women's History Brochure, Teacher's Lounge, Parents' Corner, and fun learning games and quizzes.

Lesbian History Project: A thorough and interesting history of the modern lesbian through the last few centuries.

Women in History: This website offers different resources, including lessons and curriculum on women in a global context.

Feministing: A feminist blog and interactive space for young women to stay on top of the news and issues that affect them, and to exchange thoughts and ideas with each other.
