i am not just my sexual orientation.
i have feelings, emotions, words to say.
please look beyond who i love
to see all there is about me.
i am beautiful, i am an individual.
please don't lump me over there with all the "dykes".
don't shove me into a category
simply because of what turns me on.
i will speak up for what i believe in
-whatever that may be-
don't say i can't paint my fingernails because i like girls,
and don't you DARE call me a femme,
'cause i can wield a power tool with the best of them.
but wait, that doesn't mean i'm a butch, either.
why do you say that i can't make it in life,
just because i'm a girl, a lesbian, a minority?
yeah, right.
i will go out in the world,
save it even, if i please.
i will turn my back on all your labels,
and be who i am-
me.
