FAQs: About Chapter Organizing
Nov 17, 2005
What are GLSEN chapters and what do they do?
There are currently almost 40 accredited local GLSEN chapters around the country. While some chapters have full-time or part-time staff, most are entirely volunteer-based. GLSEN chapters, with the support and guidance of the national office, work to bring GLSEN's programs and visions to their specific communities on a local level.
You can find out more about the menu of GLSEN programs in public policy, research & public awareness, education and student organizing throughout www.glsen.org.
Is there a GLSEN chapter in my area? How do I contact them?
A current list of GLSEN chapters are below. If there is not a chapter in or around your area, you may want to consider working from national resources or even starting a chapter in your area.
How do I start a GLSEN chapter?
In order to start a GLSEN chapter, please contact a member of GLSEN's Chapter Organizing staff at
chapterinfo@glsen.org.
There is also an online resource with information, here.
What is the process to accredit our GLSEN chapter?
Local GLSEN chapters must go through an annual chapter accreditation process in accordance with local, state and national law. A member of the GLSEN Chapter Organizing staff can answer specific questions about the forms and process required for accreditation.
