STAFF POSITION: Education Training Manager

Reports to: Director of Education

Objective: The Education Training Manager coordinates the delivery of GLSEN trainings, primarily the Lunchbox-based Training of Trainers (ToT) Program, to GLSEN Chapters, education stakeholders and allied organizations. The ToT prepares participants to deliver trainings on LGBT issues in education to school administrators, faculty and other school staff, to enable them to create safer school climates for all students. ToTs are delivered by GLSEN staff in partnership with a team of consultant trainers whose work is coordinated by the Education Training Manager. The Education Training Manager may also participate in the creation and delivery of other training modules on GLSEN’s issues to a range of audiences, and in the other projects of GLSEN’s Education Department.

Responsibilities:

I. Coordination of Training of Trainers (ToT) Program

  • Schedule and coordinate delivery of ToTs in partnership with GLSEN chapters and other allied organizations
  • Oversee team of consultant trainers, including, in consultation with Education Director, hiring and supervising
  • Provide ongoing staff development for trainers
  • Develop and manage performance evaluation and feedback process of the consultant trainers
  • Identify areas of development and improvement for individual training staff members
  • Manage and oversee training assignments of trainers based on areas of expertise, cultural backgrounds, or other areas of identification and experience
  • Track results and impact of ToTs after delivery
  • II. Creation and delivery of training modules on GLSEN issues

  • Deliver training modules from the GLSEN Lunchbox to GLSEN chapters, education stakeholders and allied organizations to address anti-LGBT bias in schools
  • Create additional training modules to supplement the GLSEN Lunchbox, with particular emphasis on multiple identities and multiculturalism
  • Create additional training modules on GLSEN issues in collaboration with other departments and partner organizations
  • Track results and impact of GLSEN trainings
  • III. Participation in Education Department Projects

  • Represent GLSEN at national education conferences with training workshops or booths
  • Participate in major education projects, such as No Name-Calling Week
  • Participate in maintenance of education department sections of website

  • IV. General departmental support

  • Participate in departmental meetings, interdepartmental meetings, and all-staff meetings
  • Assist with proofreading and copyediting of departmental resources
  • Assist with supervision of interns and volunteers
  • Assist with staff trainings
  • V. Other duties as assigned by Education Director

    Background and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Education or related field, or B.A. plus equivalent experience
  • At least two years of successful training experience to a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of LGBT and social justice issues
  • Knowledge of multicultural issues and cultural competency
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both youth and adult audiences
  • Ability to independently generate and execute ideas
  • Ability to independently follow projects through to completion
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize among competing tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Competence with PC-based computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel; comfort using the Internet for research purposes, and experience with listservs
  • Extensive national travel required
  • Drivers license required
  • Bilingual a plus
