STAFF POSITION: Director of Education

General Description:
Responsible for leading the Education Department of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), the leading national organization dedicated to ending harassment and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in K-12 schools, and serving as a member of GLSEN's management team. Manage development and implementation of training programs, curricular resources, and other educational initiatives to reduce bullying and harassment of LGBT people in schools and to promote accurate and appropriate representation of LGBT people and issues in K-12 settings. Develop and maintain organizational partnerships with other national organizations working on related education issues, and represent GLSEN at educational conferences, trainings, and in coalition meetings with ally organizations. Supervise Education Department staff and work with them on planning, implementation and evaluation of Education Department goals. Develop and manage Education Department annual budgets, and oversee other administrative functions for the department. Serve on GLSEN's management team, charged with developing and implementing organizational development initiatives to strengthen GLSEN's ability to meet its strategic goals.

Skills:
GLSEN's Director of Education must have a strong knowledge of K-12 education issues, a vision for leading initiatives designed to address bullying, harassment and discrimination against LGBT people in K-12 schools, knowledge of new technologies for distance learning and resource delivery, and strong managerial and communications skills. The Director of Education should have completed post-graduate study in education or a related field, have experience working as an educator or administrator in K-12 settings or in an organization working on K-12 schools issues, and have a strong knowledge of LGBT issues in education. She/he must also be able to successfully manage staff and work effectively with colleagues both within and outside the organization.

Requirements:
MA/MS/EdM in Education or related course of study. Five-plus years of experience as an educator or administrator in a K-12 school setting or commensurate experience in the field of education, or five-plus years of senior-level experience with an organization working on anti-bullying or anti-bias issues in K-12 schools. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing programmatic initiatives, and excellent editorial skills. Strong management, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills.

This position is located at GLSEN's national headquarters in New York City.
