STAFF POSITION: Communications Assistant

Reports to: Director of Communications

Objective: Assistant department staff in implementation of strategic communications and marketing efforts. Provide editorial assistance and administrative support for print and electronic materials, public relations, and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities:

A) Communications and branding

  • Maintain department-wide communications calendar
  • Maintain in-house library of materials, resources, and publications.
  • Provide editorial assistance for web site content and Respect newsletter.
  • Provide editorial assistance for electronic communications.
  • Assist with establishment and ongoing support of merchandising program.
  • Compile and analyze web site traffic and statistics.
  • Compile and maintain editorial style guide.
  • Process vendor invoices and assist in departmental budget tracking.
  • B) Public relations

  • Track and compile media coverage of GLSEN and related issues and prepare program reports.
  • Manage GLSEN’s media database
  • Assist in the management of GLSEN’s official social networking channels on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook
  • C) Marketing and outreach

  • Support communications team in delivering marketing and outreach support to program areas.
  • Provide administrative support to department director in development of marketing plans.
  • D) Other duties as assigned

    Required Skills

    1. BA communications, journalism or related liberal arts field or commensurate personal and professional experience
    2. Strong writing and editing skills.
    3. Excellent organizational and interpersonal communications skills
    4. Proven ability to establish and work within timelines
    5. Ability to multi-task and work as a member of a diverse, high-energy team.

    This position is located in GLSEN’s New York City headquarters.
