Letter from GLSEN Greater Kansas City
GLSEN Greater Kansas City (GLSEN-GKC) is a chapter of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN). We center our attention on communities in the Greater Kansas City area in Missouri and Kansas, but we also reach out to communities as far away as Cape Girardeau, MO and Wichita, KS.
Nationally, GLSEN works to ensure safe schools for ALL students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. There are over 40 Chapters around the country, which work closely with the national staff of GLSEN to implement programs, and to keep national staff informed of local events. GLSEN-GKC, like all GLSEN chapters, plays an important role in bringing GLSEN's programs and visions to its local community and like most GLSEN chapters, GLSEN-GKC is entirely volunteer-based. We are always looking for new volunteers to help us ensure safe schools for all students. If you would like to volunteer with our chapter, sign up at our volunteer page.
Much of our work right now focuses on training and supporting school personnel who wish to establish Safe Spaces for LGBT students in their school communities. We collaborate with other organizations that have similar missions to ensure safe schools for all students. With the help of volunteers like you, we will be able to expand our service here in the heart of America.
We will attempt to keep our website updated so that you can find out more about our work here in the Greater Kansas City area and to learn about the ways you can involve yourself in local and national events, programs and activities. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions that are not answered on this site. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you.
