Save the Date - October 8th - Nike Youth Sports Summit
Many of you have been waiting on information about this year's event at NIKE. After ten years of the NIKE Youth Leadership Forum, NIKE and GLSEN Oregon have decided to re-envision the summit to more directly align with GLSEN’s Sports Project and NIKE’s commitment to supporting LGBTQ student athletes, their coaches and teachers
Due to limited capacity, this year’s event will be by invitation only. Students interested in participating in the new NIKE/GLSEN Oregon Youth Sports Summit will need to submit an application to apply for acceptance. We are seeking applications from students involved in GSAs, student leaders (both in sports and non-sports), Coaches/Teachers and other school staff who work with sports and student leaders within the LGBTQ Sports space. To apply or nominate someone to attend click here.
Every application will be considered but only those applicants who best represents a school in participation of the new direction of the event will be selected to attend. The NIKE Youth Sports Summit will be held October 8 at the NIKE Campus in Beaverton Oregon. We hope to have representation from High School GSAs that we know from all across Oregon and SW Washington. This is the first time we have attempted to reach out to such a comprehensive list. The NIKE Youth Sports Summit will create an inspirational space for coaches, teachers and student athletes and student leaders to come together to create strategy and programming for their schools and fellow students.
I know that there will be some students that are disappointed with this new direction but please know that GLSEN Oregon and NIKE are exploring other ways to bring GSAs together for networking (similarly to how Nike Youth Summit was previously run). We hope that this year's event will be as impactful and enriching to all who attend. If you haven't read the statement by Robbie Roberts and the reference to his experience at the NIKE Youth Forum last year here is a link. Thank you to all of those who attended last year and had such a profound impact in the direction of the future of the event.
Danni/y Rosen, GLSEN Oregon Chair
