We have seen a number of reports from Washington State and across the country about books with LGBTQ+ themes being banned (or attempted to be banned) in schools. Censorship of books, just for containing LGBTQ+ content, silences LGBTQ+ students and is detrimental to all students. In response, we want to express how important it is for students to be able to see themselves reflected in books and curricular resources...

Our Work

At GLSEN, we want every student, in every school, to be valued and treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We believe that all students deserve a safe and affirming school environment where they can learn and grow.

GLSEN Washington State provides training and resources to students, educators and community partners to make Washington schools more inclusive for all students.

Our mission is to ensure that every member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

GLSEN WA is a volunteer run organization, meaning every success we have is credited to the dedication of our amazing volunteers. We would not be able to achieve our mission without the passion for equality that underlies the thousands of volunteer hours that are committed each year. It is thanks to their leadership that we are able to do what we do:
