Community Mobilization Associate
Reports to: Community Mobilization Manager
Location: Remote
Annual Salary: $58,500
Job Scope:
The Community Mobilization Associate supports the work of the Community Mobilization Team in order to support the connection between local GLSEN chapters and the GLSEN national office. With direct supervision from the Manager of Chapter Learning and Capacity Building, the Community Mobilizations Associate provides support for outreach, communication, facilitation, and chapter-led program support as requested by chapters and directed by Managers or Director. This role also involves some outreach to chapter leaders and other GLSEN stakeholders to activate them in support of GLSEN programming housed in EYP, Policy or other departments.
Responsibilities Include:
Chapter Support and Communication
- Act as frontline support to chapters by regularly monitoring the chapters@glsen.org email inboxes to ensure that all emails are read and acknowledged within 24 hours of receipt, and that issues are resolved within one week.
- Under guidance of department leadership, establish professional trusting relationships and demonstrate reliability with chapter leaders.
- Develop and maintain a regular communication schedule with chapter leaders.
- Work with Chapter leaders to surface, aggregate, and understand and communicate chapter needs, concerns and requests – working to understand the themes that are coming in, and work with department leadership and across national staff to identify solutions.
- As directed, work with Media Relations and Public Voice Department and Education and Youth Programs to coordinate with individual Chapters to build their online presence.
- Maintain professionalism across lines of power [national/local, staff/volunteer, youth/adult] within all relationships in the GLSEN context.
- With guidance from CM department staff, schedule and execute logistical support for regular meetings with chapter leaders to ensure a robust pipeline of communication between chapters and the national office.
Community Mobilization Team Support
- Maintain accurate contact information for Chapter and other contacts and monitor contact databases for accuracy. Ensure GLSEN national office has up-to-date contact information for the chapter network, and that CRM systems have updated chapter information.
- Document community-based advocate success stories and create other materials for GLSEN internal and external communication vehicles.
- Provide administrative assistance across Community Mobilization team.
- Other duties as assigned related to the department or as GLSEN’s representative.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with, and a passion for, LGBTQ+ issues in K-12 education.
- Experience working with volunteers or local affiliates.
- Ability to quickly build professional relationships, demonstrate reliability, and respond proactively to feedback from colleagues and supervisor; understanding of, and ability to maintain professionalism across lines of power [national/local, staff/volunteer, youth/adult] within the GLSEN context.
- Ability to be professional, diplomatic, resolve conflict, and problem-solve.
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up.
- Exhibit creativity, resourcefulness and flexibility.
- Commitment to deepening their practice related to racial equity and dismantling all forms of oppression, and participating in organizational work to that end.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with social media such as Facebook and Twitter and their uses in online to offline organizing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of constituent management and engagement software (EveryAction, etc.) a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 5 days per month.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with positive youth development, anti-oppression, youth-adult partnerships frameworks.
- Two years of experience in grassroots campaign or community organizing with proven record of success preferred
- Two or three years work in related field preferred
