GLSEN NY Capital Region Professional Development Trainings

Looking for a training for your K-12 school? We can help!

Nothing compares to working with your colleagues to address the issues going on in your school.
With more than 25 years of experience, GLSEN can help you ensure that your school provides a safe and affirming learning environment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

GLSEN NY Capital Region Professional Development (PD) workshops help empower K-12 educators, school staff, and pre-service teachers to improve school climate, support LGBT students, incorporate inclusive curriculum or implement a new anti-bullying or discrimination policy.

We believe that all K-12 educators can benefit from attending GLSEN PD workshops regardless of role; because, all educators can be supportive allies and have positive impacts on school climate.

Our chapter offers workshops on a variety of topics including:
  • Anti-LGBTQ bias and harassment
  • LGBTQ competency (language, terminology)
  • Creating policies for transgender and gender non-conforming students
  • Being in compliance with local, state, and federal laws (Title IX, DASA, etc.)
  • Utilizing the National School Climate Survey and other GLSEN research
  • Putting your Safe Space Kit into action
  • Best practices
  • Inclusive curriculum and resources
Our chapter offers this content through:

Full and Half Day Professional Development Workshops (3+ hours in length)
These workshops recognized by GLSEN's National Office and are meant for school-based personnel. They are led by nationally certified trainers. Both the Full and Half Day PD Workshops follow a set series of activities, but can be customized slightly for the audience or type of environment. They involve a pre-training conference and post-training evaluation.

Shorter Speaking Engagements (Typically 1.5-3 hours in length)
These engagements are typically for schools that have already had a GLSEN Professional Development or are looking to supplement a program or event. This may be a workshop during a professional development, a panel discussion led by our trainers, or an overview of LGBTQ affirming resources for your staff.

GLSEN PD fees vary by location, size of group, length of workshop and other factors. Financial assistance may be available to qualifying schools, districts and organizations. Please note that training requests will be filled only if capacity permits.
