Changing the Game: For Students
On the court, in the pool and on the field, we all want to perform and have our team perform at the highest level possible. For many student athletes, expressing their sexual orientation and/or gender identity can be a scary thought or experience and can keep them from playing their best. Certainly when we can bring our whole self to our sport we all play better! That’s why working towards a safe, respectful and inclusive sports environment is so important but it takes changing the game!
Whether you are LGBT or an ally, Changing the Game: the GLSEN Sports Project has resources to help you ensure that your school’s athletic environment is safe and supportive.
To get started, take a look at the resources on the right side of this page. You can download the climate checklist to assess your school's efforts to change the game, take the team respect challenge or snap a game changer selfie. However you want to get involved, GLSEN has a number of resources to make it happen! Be sure to tweet us @GLSENSports or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to stay connected.
If you're an LGBT student athlete looking for additional resources and support, check out our friends at GO! Athletes. GO! Athletes is a support network of current and former LGBTQ collegiate and high school athletes, which creates safe spaces in the athletic community through visibility, education, and advocacy.
