Comment to Census Bureau on LGBTQI+ Inclusive Surveys

GLSEN submitted a comment to the Census Bureau urging them to move forward with the proposed survey on sexual orientation and gender identity. The American Community Survey is a questionnaire that collects vital demographic data from millions of residents; this data goes on to inform government decisions like resource allocation and civil rights investigations. LGBTQIA2S+ people have been continuously undercounted in such federal surveys and the proposed test seeks to address these disparities. GLSEN also recommended ways the Census Bureau can strengthen future data collection efforts by including questions on intersex people and Two-Spirit identity.
