Public Comment on Federal Discretionary Grant Programs

GLSEN communicated support for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ young people in several proposed priorities for the U.S. Department of Education’s (USED) discretionary grant programs (see 86 Federal Register §123). At the same time, GLSEN urged USED to apply an intersectional equity lens and enumerate LGBTQ+ students and educators in two additional proposed priorities addressing Covid recovery programs and efforts to strengthen and diversify the educator workforce.

Update: USED amended its proposed priority for Covid recovery programs and activities to address the needs of underserved students, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, or intersex (LGBTQI+) students.
