GLSEN Statement on Celebrate Bisexuality Day 

NEW YORK (September 23, 2015) – GLSEN's Executive Director, Dr. Eliza Byard, issued the following statement in acknowledgement of Celebrate Bisexuality Day. Recognized annually since 1999 on September 23, Celebrate Bisexuality Day (CBD) is an international awareness day to combat bisexual invisibility that is also referred to as Bi Visibility Day and Bisexual Pride Day. 

“GLSEN is proud to support Celebrate Bisexuality Day and the honoring of role models, leaders and the bisexual community as a whole. In addition to the bullying, verbal harassment and discrimination that their lesbian and gay peers face, bisexual youth experience unique challenges including bisexual erasure and/or invisibility in which the existence or legitimacy of bisexuality is questioned, denied or ignored. We must continue to work to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes to creating a more vibrant and diverse community.”
