LOS ANGELES (April 30, 2018) – Teachers play a critical role in the educational and personal development of young people around the country. This May, Teleflora, the world’s leading floral delivery service and GLSEN, the leading education organization working to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for LGBTQ youth, are partnering for a third consecutive year to help individuals express their gratitude for the educators in their lives who are making a difference.

During National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7 to 11, 2018), anyone who purchases Teleflora’s Be Happy® Bouquet with Roses will receive 20 percent off the price. In addition, 10 percent of all sales from Teleflora’s Be Happy Bouquet with Roses will be donated to GLSEN in support of their mission to create safe and inclusive schools for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression.

Since 1953, National Teacher Appreciation Week has recognized the lasting contributions educators make in the lives of young people. Organized annually by the National Education Association (NEA) and the National Parent Teacher Association (NPTA) this event provides an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary educator in your life.

“Teachers play an integral role in the development of children, and it is important to acknowledge the immense impact they have in our communities,” said Kelly McKeone, Vice President of Consumer and Florist Marketing at Teleflora. “We are pleased to support GLSEN for a third consecutive year and thrilled to be a part of honoring educators with a floral gift that gives back to further help create safe and inclusive schools across the country.”

“We are so proud to partner with Teleflora to encourage people everywhere to celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week with flowers for a teacher who has truly made a difference,” said Dr. Eliza Byard, GLSEN Executive Director. “For LGBTQ youth, supportive teachers are the foundation for well-being, achievement, and a sense of belonging at school. We cannot thank them enough. We know that far too many dedicated teachers do not have the resources they need, or the support they deserve. I hope that everyone will join GLSEN and Teleflora in brightening a teacher’s day during National Teacher Appreciation Week.”

GLSEN National Student Climate Survey found that LGBTQ students with at least one supportive staff member had significantly higher GPAs than students without any supportive staff members.

In addition, LGBTQ students with many supportive staff member were half as likely to miss a day of school in the past month than students without supportive staff members.
