GLSEN to Honor Hollister Co. at the 2018 GLSEN Respect Awards – New York
Hollister Co. to Receive Corporate Ally Award on May 21st at Cipriani 42nd Street
New York, NY (March 12, 2018) – GLSEN, the leading education organization working to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for LGBTQ youth, will honor Hollister Co., a brand of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF), with the Corporate Ally Award at the 2018 GLSEN Respect Awards – New York.
“Hollister Co., has invested deeply in becoming a leader among retailers lifting up the voices of youth and amplifying GLSEN’s message of Respect for All. During last year’s Pride campaign, Hollister ran a roundup campaign in all of its US stores, encouraging all of its customers to support LGBTQ students with contributions to GLSEN. The round up support was accompanied by vibrant marketing materials, which reached millions of consumers with information about GLSEN’s work and impact, as told by GLSEN student leaders themselves. Hollister recently featured several of GLSEN National Student Council members’ own stories in its Carpe Love campaign, and the team is working with us on the next phase of this robust and extensive partnership,” said Eliza Byard, Executive Director of GLSEN. “From investing in multifaceted marketing campaigns that center the voices of student leaders; educating and training its own staff; and raising significant and vital funds for GLSEN’s work, Hollister has taken a bold, consistent, and unequivocal stand for respect for all at a time when none of us can take that basic value for granted.”
“At Hollister, we strive to make a positive impact in young people's lives around the world. We work to ensure that our customers feel included, respected and empowered, and we are honored to partner with charities that share this same commitment,” said Kristin Scott, President of Hollister Co. “As a company so closely connected to our teen consumer, we understand the importance of giving back and are proud to partner with GLSEN and support its mission to help create safe and inclusive environments. Our partnership with GLSEN is important to us and important to our customers. We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to LGBTQ youth and in the company of so many accomplished individuals and organizations. We look forward to celebrating with them at this year's Respect Awards.”
The GLSEN Respect Awards were introduced in 2004. Held annually in Los Angeles and New York, the award show honors the work of student leaders, educators, community organizers, influencers, and corporations who serve as exemplary role models and have made a significant impact on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.
Past New York honorees include Ilene Chaiken, Jason Collins, Carla Gugina, Matthew Morrison, and George Stephanopoulos and Alexandra Wentworth; Corporate Ally Award winners include AT&T, Blue 449, First Data, Johnson & Johnson, and JPMorgan & Chase Co. The GLSEN Respect Awards – New York will welcome approximately 600 guests, including outstanding youth leaders and educators from around the country, raising more than $1 million in support of GLSEN’s work.
GLSEN has led the way on LGBTQ issues in K-12 education since 1990 through ground-breaking original research, innovative program development, educator training, student organizing, and targeted state and federal advocacy. With the development of educational resources, direct engagement of youth and educators, and national programs like GLSEN’s Day of Silence and GLSEN’s Ally Week, GLSEN has seen the impact of its work.
