GLSEN Executive Director Responds to Former President Trump’s Threat to Ban Gender-Affirming Care for Youth

Today, after former President Donald Trump released a video threatening to ban gender-affirming care for minors, GLSEN Executive Director Melanie Willingham-Jaggers released the following statement:

“This is yet another example of right-wing extremists trying to silence and erase LGBTQ+ people. Gender-affirming care is healthcare and it saves lives — every single major medical association in the U.S. supports gender-affirming care for youth. Rolling back young people’s ability to access care would have catastrophic consequences, and it makes me sick to watch politicians like Trump use kids as political pawns.

As our movement to protect and empower LGBTQ+ youth grows, our opposition is becoming louder and more desperate. Despite attacks, we’re staying focused on building our collective power, and we’re going to continue to fight to elect leaders who care about the safety and well-being of all youth.”
